Speaker Profiles

Richard Bowser

Editor | Property Investor News Magazine

One of the very few independent market commentators who, from 2002 onwards, regularly warned private investors as to the very clear risk factors relating to the purchase of new-build apartments for investment. In early 2007 Richard emphatically predicted that mortgage lending would quickly become more difficult/expensive and that investors should avoid carrying excessive debt levels on low yielding property.  These days the impact of the banks’ increased risk aversion to property lending is plain to see, but back in 2007 the boom was still in progress and Richard's oft issued words of caution were foolishly ignored by many investors who remain in negative equity or faced repossession.  Over the last decade Richard has regularly spelt out to investors the inherent risk of speculative investment strategies based on low yields and excessively high LTV borrowing. A sought after speaker at many property investor and landlord events, Richard’s views are widely recognised and valued - most importantly by the thousands of subscribers to ‘Property Investor News’.

Ruban Selvanayagam

Ruban Selvanayagam is a private rented sector landlord, head blogger at the Property Investor's Blog and co-founder of  Property Solvers – a leading quick house buyer and express estate agency established in 2006.

She's been named one of the UK's most inspirational female entrepreneurs, a board member of the Vine Trust Group, and a trustee of three Historic Building Trusts.

Andy Graham

When Andy Graham first stepped into the HMO market in 2009, his objective was clear; He wanted to build a highly profitable, income-generating business that could stand the test of time, something that gave him the freedom of time and choice to enjoy life on his terms. After over 15 years investing in property, this goal has not only shaped his life but has become the cornerstone of what he now aims to pass on to aspiring investors.

He has purchased, refurbished and managed hundreds of HMOs all over the UK, catering to both student and professional markets, and raising millions of pounds of private investment along the way. His experience embraces smaller 3-bedroom HMO properties to much larger 25+ bedroom buildings.

Toby Spanier

Toby Spanier started investing in property in October 2017 and has since acquired over 100 units. He initially focused on HMOs, before branching out into social housing and commercial to residential conversions, financed via SSAS pensions.

He has significantly grown his property company through multiple loans from his SSAS, as well as using his SSAS to purchase commercial property directly. He invests in the Midlands, London, and the South East.

Sam Carter

Using our building company to add value to properties, SJC Property Developments aims to be known as the best Landlord in Cambridge.

Mike ran teams across Europe, America and Asia helping clients such as Unilever, Bt and Microsoft with strategy, technology implementations and outsourcing. Mikes last project was to successfully outsource IT, HR & Finance departments for an £8bn company across 75 Countries to three different offshore delivery centres.

Mike left consulting to spend more time with his young family and became CIO of May Gurney, taking over a failing IT department and transforming it to hit all KPIs. He started to invest in property in 2018 to seek a better work/life balance and has built a portfolio of 2 vanilla BTL and 14 HMOs.
